1936 Olympic Games Flag Bearer James Worrall Honoured

Olympic Spirit Toronto - Canada - February 10, 2006

The athlete who carried Canada's flag into the Opening Ceremonies of the Games of the XI Olympiad in Berlin 1936 was honoured today in a special ceremony at Olympic Spirit Toronto.

Petro-Canada, Official Sponsor of the Canadian Olympic Team and the XXI Olympic Winter Games - Vancouver 2010, unveiled the James Worrall Flag Bearer Award, now on permanent display at Olympic Spirit Toronto (Dundas and Yonge).

Brian Orser, Canadian Flag Bearer in Calgary 1988, spoke on behalf of Olympic athletes.

Mr. Worrall is an Honourary IOC Member and a former President of the Canadian Olympic Association. He is a recipient of the Canadian Olympic Order and has been inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame as a builder.
