IOC Narrows Field for Youth Olympic Games From Nine to Five
Lausanne, Switzerland - November 19, 2007
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has narrowed the field of cities hoping to host the 1st Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2010 from nine applicants to five Candidate Cities.
The five cities selected on the basis of candidature files submitted to the IOC last month were:
· Athens, Greece
· Bangkok, Thailand
· Moscow, Russia
· Singapore
· Torino, Italy
The IOC had received submissions from nine applicant cities, including Debrecen, Hungary; Guatemala City, Guatemala; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Poznan, Poland.
The IOC will elect the host city by postal vote in February, 2008 from a list put forward by the IOC Executive Board, based upon an assessment and report of the IOC Evaluation Commission.
