Olympic Torch Relay
Presented by Coca-Cola and RBC

Vancouver, Canada | February 12, 2010

The Olympic Flame was lit in Olympia, Greece on October 22, 2009. From there, the Olympic Flame was flown to Canada and the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay began a 106-day journey across Canada on October 30th from Victoria, British Columbia, the provincial capital.

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay is the longest in history to be contained within the Host Country, travelling over 45,000 km. Nearly 200 celebrations were hosted by communities in every province and territory, and the Torch was carried through over 1,000 communities and places of interest.

The 2010 Olympic Torch Relay began in Victoria on October 30, 2009 and concluded at the Opening Ceremony of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games on February 12, 2010. Over 12,000 people had the honour of carrying the Olympic Torch and Canada’s greatest hockey player, Wayne Gretzky was the last Torchbearer.

Presenting partners Coca-Cola and RBC lead a public application process and invited Canadians to carry the torch by sharing stories about how they are building healthier individuals and creating a stronger Canada.
