Legendary Olympic Filmmaker and eight-time Emmy Award winner Bud Greenspan passed away at his home in Manhattan on December 25.
He was 84 and had faced some challenging health issues in recent times.
He is survived by Nancy Beffa, his companion, business partner and executive producer/director of the films made by
Cappy Productions, and his sister, Sarah Rosenberg.
His wife, Cappy Petrash Greenspan, who received an Emmy Award as executive producer of “The Olympiad” series
and for whom Cappy Productions was named, died in 1983.
Bud was a great friend of OLYMPIC SPIRIT and the entire Olympic Movement.
His official films of the Olympic Games, since "16 Days of Glory" in 1984 are classics and truly inspirational
to the IOC's OLYMPIC SPIRIT program.

Bud Greenspan was an exceptionally talented filmmaker.
He understood more than anyone that the most extraordinary achievements at the Olympic Games were made by
those Olympians who did not necessarily win Olympic Gold medals, but who had overcome extreme hardships simply to compete.
“Sometimes the essence of the Olympic Games can be found in people who don’t stand on the victory podium”
Bud told The San Francisco Chronicle in an interview.
His audiences shed more than a few tears while watching his masterpieces ...
Bud Greenspan was a dear friend.
I will always cherish the times we spent together with Bud and Nancy, in Lausanne, New York
and at the Olympic Games all over the world.
Perhaps more than any other, Bud Greenspan has taught me what the Olympic Spirit is all about.
I am extremely fortunate to have known this great man.
Ever since his first journey to the Olympics in London 1948, Bud Greenspan has communicated his
profound understanding of the essence of the Olympic Games through his inspirational filmmaking talents,
and truly made the world a better place.
We are deeply saddened by his passing and convey our deepest condolences to Nancy and his colleagues at Cappy Productions.
May the legacy and spirit of Bud Greenspan live-on forever in OLYMPIC SPIRIT.
